Who's actually mirroring whom here? Narcissism as a Challenge in the Workplace with Dr. Thomas Arnold
We cordially invite you to thinktalk@new&able on October 8, 2026, in Heidelberg and on October 22, 2026, in Stuttgart.
Everyone is talking about narcissism—whether on social media, in our personal lives, or at work. But what does the term actually mean? And why do we sometimes find ourselves caught up in dynamics where recognition, self-promotion, and power play a bigger role than cooperation and trust?
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Thomas Arnold as our special guest, who will join us in exploring the phenomenon of narcissism. We’ll examine how narcissistic personality traits can influence the workplace, why this topic is so relevant today, and what implications it has for leadership, teams, and organizations.
Dr. Thomas Arnold is the co-author of the book *The Insatiable Self: A Phenomenology of Narcissism*, published by Suhrkamp Verlag, and a sought-after interviewee:
Figures such as U.S. President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk seem to embody the spirit of the times. After all, narcissists appear to be crowned with success. A philosophical exploration with phenomenologist Thomas Arnold.
New media allow anyone to present themselves to a global audience. One’s image is supposed to be perfect and to get lots of “likes.” In their book *The Insatiable Self*, two philosophers explain why we are living in an age of narcissism and why this is a dangerous development for all of us.
At the events in Heidelberg and Stuttgart, we want to explore the phenomenon of narcissism together with you. You can look forward to academic insights, fascinating real-world examples, and a thought-provoking discussion.
